In 1989, Thomas E. and June T. McGinty of Shaker Heights, Ohio organized The Alice and Patrick McGinty Foundation as a living memorial to honor Mr. McGinty’s parents who believed in and instilled the values of a quality education that would enrich and enlarge the life experience of their family and the lives and families of others. In 1999 the name was changed to the McGinty Family Foundation.
Through the efforts of their organization, the principle donors and family have provided over $6,000,000 in support to local public, parochial and private schools and school teachers in Northeast Ohio.
Born Aug 20,1929 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Beloved husband of 56 years to June T. Loving father of Thomas P., Michael J. and Matthew J. Grandfather of four. Great grandfather of two. Brother of Patricia, David, Kathleen and Marilyn. Uncle and friend to many. Thomas was a Commissioned Officer and decorated U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., director for Huntington Bank and the founder and funding source for The Alice and Patrick McGinty Foundation.
In 2001, Mr. McGinty was honored with the Notre Dame College Fidelia Award presented to those who have rendered distinguished service and demonstrated outstanding fidelity to the College. The Fidelia Award is similar in scope to the Laetare Medal presented by the University of Notre Dame and the Cardinal Gibbons Medal presented by the Catholic University of America.
Mr. McGinty died 13 Feb 2007 at the age of 77 surrounded by his family in Cleveland.
